Leaf Collection & Drop-Off

The Town of Ithaca Public Works Department picks up yard waste (brush, leaves, garden waste, pine needles, ornamental grass, grass clippings, etc.) in mid-April and in mid-October.  Please refer to the Town’s newsletter or Home page of the website for specific dates.

The Public Works Department will pick up leaves, starting mid-April and mid-October, and will continue throughout the Town until finished. All yard waste must be at the roadside by 7 a.m. on the first day of collection. There will be no second collection and no callbacks.

Town of Ithaca and Village of Cayuga Heights residents may drop their yard waste (brush, leaves, garden/yard debris) at the Public Works facility at 114 Seven Mile Dr., Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. through 2:30 p.m. year-round.  Please sign in at the office.

Preparing For Collection

Fall

In the fall, leaves are vacuumed throughout the town, so leaves may be raked to the shoulder of the road or bagged in biodegradable paper bags. There will be no second collection and no callbacks for leaf vacuuming. For subsequent weeks in November, weather permitting, crews will be collecting bagged leaves only.

Spring

In the spring, our crews do not vacuum leaves, therefore, no loose piles of leaves will be picked up. Biodegradable paper bags must be used.
