Meeting Agendas Meeting Minutes The Zoning Board of Appeals consists of five members, which are appointed by the Town Board, with 2 alternates. Regular members are five (5) year appointments and Alternates are a one calendar year appointments. The Zoning Board is a quasi-judicial board that is charged with the responsibility for ensuring that the zoning ordinances are complied with. Requests for variances and/or special approvals are considered and ruled upon. Kirk Sigel - 2013 David Allee Award Recipient for Outstanding Zoning Board Chair Kirk Sigel, Chair of our own Town of Ithaca Zoning Board of Appeals, is the 2013 recipient of the New York Planning Federation’s David Allee Award for Outstanding Zoning Board Chair! Kirk was presented with the award during the annual New York Planning Federation Conference awards luncheon, held on April 22 at the Gideon Putnam Resort and Hotel in Saratoga Springs, New York. The David Allee Award, named in honor of the former leader of the Cornell Local Government Program and the late Chair of the Village of Cayuga Heights Zoning Board of Appeals, is one of six land use awards established by the New York Planning Federation created to recognize excellence and achievement in New York State. The award is presented annually to an outstanding Zoning Board Chair.
Kirk was honored for his dedication and longevity to public service, his sense of fairness and consistency, and his leadership style and meeting management approach as Chair of the Town of Ithaca’s Zoning Board of Appeals. Kirk has
been a member of the Town of Ithaca’s
Zoning Board of Appeals for 15 years. He
became Chair of the Board in 1999 and continues to lead the Board in that
capacity. He also served on the Town’s
Codes and Ordinances Committee for a number of years, where he helped shape the
creation and revisions to many Town regulations, including the Town’s Zoning
Code. As a current resident of the Village of Cayuga Heights, Kirk also serves
as a member of the Cayuga Heights Zoning Board of Appeals.
