Joint Youth Commission Board Vacancies—Looking for Volunteers from Town of Ithaca

Do you have two hours a month to be a force for YOUTH and FIRST TIME YOUTH EMPLOYMENT?

The Joint Youth Commission has an opening for a board representative from Town of Ithaca. The Joint Youth Commission, composed of members from Village of Lansing,     Town of Ithaca, Village of Cayuga Heights and the Town of Caroline, interacts with ongoing and prospective program providers and furnishes recommendations on the distribution of municipal funding for youth programs.  We focus on middle school and high school age youth and prioritize first time youth employment. Currently funded organizations include The Learning Web, The Cooperative Extension, the Coddington Road Community Center Camp and Ithaca Youth Bureau Youth Employment Services.  Programs typically help youth become involved in interest-based group activities, apprenticeships and career tours, a summer community service program, a counselor in   training program or a first-time job.  These programs are supervised by trained professionals.

Applicants for our current vacancy need to be at least 18 years of age and have to be a resident of either the Town of Ithaca or the Village of Cayuga Heights.          Parents who have youth entering the middle school and high school years have historically been a good fit for this opportunity in the past.

Meetings are held the second Tuesday of the month at 7:00 PM at Ithaca Town Hall.

Please email Kris Bennett or Lorraine Moran, or attend one of our meetings to check out whether this important volunteer opportunity is for you.
