The Town of Ithaca is looking to hire a student (undergraduate or graduate) or recent graduate for a parttime
position for the spring 2018 semester. The Intern will support the work of the Sustainability Planner for
the Town of Ithaca, assisting in a variety of projects related to energy and sustainability. One specific
project will be the Ithaca Green Building Policy (GBP), which is being developed to improve the energy

Work activities will vary, but will include the following:
  • Conduct research on green building policies and other energy and sustainability topics
  • Prepare verbal and written briefs of research results
  • Analyze and present numerical data
  • Assist in communications
  • Provide administrative help
  • General knowledge of issues and terminology related to energy use in buildings, as well as advanced knowledge in some or all of the following areas: Green building standards and certifications; Building energy codes; Construction materials and methods; Energy-using equipment/systems in buildings; Architecture and design; Public policy development and analysis; and other areas related to green buildings
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Motivation and ability to work independently
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects on different timelines
  • Knowledge of Ithaca and Tompkins County
The Intern will work between six and ten hours per week on Mondays, Wednesdays and/or Fridays through
the spring semester. There is a possibility of extending this position through the summer. For those eligible
for work study, the hourly pay rate will be $15.25 (unless a lower rate is imposed by the academic
institution). Students not eligible for work study may arrange to receive academic credit; otherwise this will
be a volunteer position.
